Customer rating is 1 of 5  Buy Ziploc instead   2010-02-16

From day 1, this pump was slow to vacuum the air out of the bag. The bags are also hard to create an air tight seal. They look and feel like they are sealed but are not. Several bags have lost thier air tight seal in the freezer, and now the bags are only available online (For a small Fortune). The Ziploc hand pump system is cheap, 10 times faster and more effective. Don't waste your time or MONEY on this one.

Like many here, I really like the Handi-Vac, and was really incensed when Reynolds basically abandoned purchasers and stopped making the bags.

However, I picked up one of the Zip-Lock manual pump starter kits and was happy to learn that the Zip-Lock bags work just as well as the Reynolds bags. They don't feel quite as "sturdy" as the Reynolds, but then I'm not sealing hardware in them. And so far, I have yet to have one fail to seal or to hold the seal.

I dehydrate a lot of veggies in season for use when they're not, then vac-seal them and place them into light-tight and near air-tight wooden cigar boxes obtained from a cigar-smoking friend. Both the Reynolds and Zip-Lock bags have worked fine for the purpose. I also purchase the "Family Pack" meats to get the savings, then break them out and seal them before freezing (adding marinade where appropriate--steaks, etc.), and this, too, has worked well.

Note that the one-star rating is not for the bags themselves, but for the outrageous pricing on them. As stated, I find both brands of bags eminently satisfactory, and am happy to use either. Oh, yeah, and the manual Zip-Lock pump works a treat when the batteries run low on the Reynolds and you don't have time to run to the store.

Apparently Zip-Lock doesn't have a problem making enough money to keep their product on the market, which makes Reynolds' decision to completely abandon it, along with the customer goodwill, such a puzzling PR and customer relationship disaster. Reynolds, what the heck were you thinking? I, for one, now avoid purchasing any Reynolds product for which there is a competitive product available. It may be a small protest, but if enough disgruntled customers did so the message might put an itch under the corporate behemoth's skin. Just sayin'...
Customer rating is 5 of 5  replacement bags....   2010-01-15

Reynolds it seems is now selling the bags on HSN, thru Debbie Meyers......price is reasonable enough, i think it was $15 for 30 one gallon bags.....really not bag considering what many vendors are trying to sell them for.....you might try getting them thru HSN....i agree though, Reynolds did leave the consumer high and dry on this one....

You can now find the Handi-vac and the bags on HSN. A set of 40 quart sized bags are 14.90 plus S & H.

I love the Reynolds Handi-Vac product. Since Reynolds decided to not offer the bags any longer, I found the bags on HSN shopping network. The price is much more reasonable than those I found on the internet. Try going to HSN website for bags.
