Customer rating is 5 of 5  Check out toppings, too!   2010-08-19
By A. Carew (Colorado Springs, CO)
This is a good recipe book for people who respect "old fashioned", "just like Grandma's" type-recipe books. However, like a lot of those old-time-y cookbooks, some of the portion sizings aren't suited to modern machines or tastes...so if you are afraid of cutting a recipe in half, this may not be the best book for you. Even so--be a little adventurous, and this will be the best ice cream you've ever had! (The topping recipes were INCREDIBLY good, too.)

I've used this book over six others for making Ice Cream. Very well written, large print, and sensible ice cream recipes.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Ice cream like my mom used to make   2009-12-17
By thundercloud (Central Missouri)
I looked for quite some time for a book that had a home made ice cream recipe that could compare to my Mom's. I believe I found it in this book. I had forgotten the exact method she used and she passed on. Her's was not a written recipe, it was one in her head. My main job was to turn the crank on the old hand cranked ice cream maker.

There is one recipe in here that is like the method she used and it tastes close. I grew up on a farm and we always had fresh cream and fresh milk to use. My mouth still waters when I think of eating Mom's home canned peaches with fresh cream on them or better still home made ice cream.

I highly recommend this book
Customer rating is 4 of 5  White Mountain Ice Cream Maker   2009-10-20
By G. F. (Northern California)
Bought this 6 quart ice cream maker because of the heavy duty features and good reviews. It looked good and worked great at first, making excellent ice cream. Then the motor started grinding and after about three weeks the thing quit during the fourth batch of ice cream. Am glad I had keep using it after the third batch and didn't put it away for winter. Called the 1-800 customer service number and received excellent service. They are shipping a new motor and postage to return the burned out motor. The rep advised they get a problem like this about once every six months. I rated this unit 4 stars due to the solid construction of it and the manner it made ice cream when it was working. It is a top rate item. I anticipate checking out the new motor when I receive it and making sure there is no repeat problems. Afterwards, I plan on buying two more for my older kids for Christmas, at a 25% discount that the rep also offered me. In all my years of buying items, this was probably the best customer service received. Oh, if you purchase one, buy some good ice cream recipe books with it. I recommend the books, Caroline Liddell and Robin Weir's Frozen Desserts; Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream & Dessert Book; and Thomas Quinn's Old-Fashioned Homemade Ice Cream.
