Customer rating is 5 of 5  Awesome Pans!   2010-06-07

These pans baked my muffins to perfection. Nothing works as good as cast iron. Make sure you grease your pans for the first while until they are worked in...your batter will stick.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great Muffin Pan   2010-05-31
By A. Mann (Murrieta, CA USA)
This is a great muffin pan. Everything bakes evenly. I'm surprised how many people down grade their reviews because of the size. It uses the same amount of batter as any other muffin pan I have. They are just a bit taller and not as wide. The best thing is that it bakes better than any of my other muffin pans. I liked this so well, that I bought more so I could get rid of the other pans.
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Too tiny-too fussy   2010-04-03
By R. L. Young Jr. (Idaho mountains)
Normally Lodge cast iron products are on top of my list, but this one fails. Quality of the casting is fine, the pre-seasoning is ok, but the size is ridiculously small. Also, after three seasoning cycles, the muffins still cling to the cups. After spending this amount of money, better performance is expected. The muffin size is more appropriate for a stuffy garden club tea than what a typical male would consider adequate. My preference is sufficient reward for my labor. The effort required to produce a dozen wimpy, poor-excuses-for-a-muffin is too much. Lodge was not thinking when this was designed. For a bit more money I took a chance on a Chicago Metallic 364D glazed silicone aluminized steel pan. It's far superior. Size is great (Lodge offers no choice) and the muffins DROP out with a shake. The pan will last forever (so will the Lodge), but the 364D wins.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Wonderful and Adorable!   2010-01-06
By Rene' (Houston, TX United States)
The muffin pan I received from Amazon was model # LP52 - not LP53 that the listing shows. I contacted Lodge and they told me I received the older discontinued model. So this review is for that pan, for anyone else who accidentally receives it. The top of the muffin holes on my model are 2 1/2" wide and the bottom of the muffin holes are 1 1/2" wide. I measured water into a well on my regular muffin pan and then into the baby cast iron muffin pan. The Lodge muffin well holds 1/3 less water than a regular sized muffin pan.

With all that said, I really like the pan. I'm going to order a second one. To use, I preheat the pan while mixing up the muffin batter, then oil it lightly with coconut oil just before adding the batter. The muffins turn out great and are SO cute. :) When the pan cools I just scrub with a stiff dish brush, dry with a towel, heat it a little on the stove and give it a light coating of oil inside the wells.

I've also found another great use for this pan. I have an electric range, and I can place the muffin pan on a burner on low with a glass casserole dish on top to heat up food evenly or keep it warm without causing harm to the glassware. I'm just getting into cast iron cooking and I love it, and this muffin pan is a great addition to my growing collection.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Perfect cornbread pan   2009-12-25
By Lazy girl (Los Angeles, CA)
I used this to make some cornbread muffins for the first time during this year's Thanksgiving dinner. And I had people begging me for more. As some users have stated in earlier reviews, it does look quite small; however, it makes perfectly-sized cornbread muffins. It seems the reason it appears so tiny is because the sides are straight versus diverging like a regular muffin pan. And unless you're baking for 1-2 people, this muffin pan isn't good for large batches, as it's obvious that it only makes 6 muffins per batch.

Although the company states that the pan comes pre-seasoned, I still added a coating of some butter-flavored cooking spray before preheating the pan in the oven. The secret is to get the pan really hot so that it crisps up the batter to your cornbread. The muffins fell right out when they were done! Perhaps those with gripes about their muffins sticking to the pan didn't add a coat of grease.

Overall, this is a great cast iron pan. I'm looking forward to trying this with biscuits at another holiday event.
