I'm not sure what the hype is about. I purchased Grill Grates looking for something that would provide a better sear on my grilled meat. The first time I used them, I waited for the grill to heat up to a nice level and then put my steaks on the grill grates. Three minutes later I rotate my steaks to get the cross hatches and there are no grill marks! I leave them on for a few more minutes and I finally realize that my steaks are basically baking in the grill, not grilling or searing. Ugh. Well last night I decided to give them one more try. I heated up my grill again, only this time I had my laser temperature gauge handy. Lo and behold, the steel grates on my Weber gas grill were getting up to 550-600F degrees, while the gill grates were only hovering around 275-325. Needless to say, I did not ruin another steak on these useless grates. Interestingly enough after my steaks were grilled up nicely on the original Weber grates AND had rested for 5 minutes I checked the temp of the grill grates again, and they STILL had only reached 425 degrees. Not good enough for me. Useless product in my opinion.

These grates do a nice job eliminating flair-ups and putting picture-perfect grill marks on steaks. The added fitted spatula makes it easy to flip delicate foods and helps with cleaning. Because the grates' length is a little smaller than the surface of mt BBQ grate, cleaning them with a brush is tricky since they tend to slide/shift along the surface. This said, I really like having these grates available when grilling steaks, veggies, shrimp, fish . . . even dumplings. But it's not my first choice for burgers, brats, and the like. Overall: Nice addition to any BBQ!

With this product and the website [...] I am finally able to do really good ribs on the barbecue. I found this product on the above website in the process of trying yet another approach to barbecuing ribs that didn't end up tough, dry and tasteless. I cannot say enough good about it. I'm a weekend BBQ'er (gas grill) and have tried off and on for years to duplicate the ribs I've eaten in good rib restaurants. It is a must-have product for anybody who wants to do great things on their grill without pain. It allows lower grill temps while cooking, seasons quickly, cleans up easily and gives great control over the grilling process. If you grill, I guarantee this product will make you a better cook. I also purchased the extra piece of grill. Three pieces on a 4 burner gas grill allows you to cook with the two center burners on or just one on for indirect grilling and still load up the grate with a butterflied chicken, 5# of ribs, or several burgers and hot dogs!

I found these grates on Craig "Meathead" Goldwyn's website and thought I'd give them a try. His recipe for ribs was so perfect, I said, "Hey! I'll trust this guy." The grates do everything he said. I also watched the videos on the Grillgrates website and learned how to use them. They are fantastic and I too highly recommend them! Happy grilling!
